Income Tax Department Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India.
Post Age as on 01.07.2026 Essential Educational Qualification (as on 01.07.2026)
Tax Assistant (TA) 18 to 27 years A Degree from a recognized University or an equivalent qualification
Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) 18 to 25 years Matriculation (Class 10) pass or equivalent qualification from a recognized Board

Age Relaxation: 5 years for UR/OBC candidates and 10 years for SC/ST candidates, as per DoPT OM No. DOPT-1720781414772 dated 04.03.2024. This relaxation applies only to candidates who satisfy all other eligibility conditions related to education and sports qualification, and who furnish a certificate in the prescribed format as per Annexure-C of the notice.

Educational Qualification Cut-off: The essential educational qualification must be possessed on or before 01.07.2026; any qualification obtained after this date will not be considered.

Sports Eligibility: Meritorious sportspersons will be considered for appointment if they satisfy any one of the following:

  • Sportspersons who represented a State or the Country in National or International competitions; or medal winners in Junior National Championships, Khelo India Youth Games (age category above 18 years), Khelo India Winter Games, Khelo India Para Games, Khelo India University Games, or School Games Federation of India (SGFI) events, in any of the games/sports listed above. For Chess: Grand Master (GM) Title, International Master (IM) Title, or Chess Olympiad participation (IM/GM title must be in the Open Category); National Open Chess Championship is treated as a National Championship, and medal-winning performance in the National Team Chess Championship is also considered.
  • Sportspersons who represented their University in Inter-University Tournaments conducted by the Inter-University Sports Boards, in any of the listed games/sports.
  • Sportspersons who represented State School Teams in National Sports/Games for Schools conducted by the All India School Games Federation, in any of the listed games/sports.

No appointment can be made unless the candidate is eligible in all respects — age, educational, and experience qualifications — except to the extent relaxation has been permitted for the applicable class/category.

Income Tax Department Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 Selection Criteria (Order of Preference)

  1. Candidates who represented the country in an International Competition with clearance from the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
  2. Candidates who represented a State/UT in Senior or Junior level National Championships (organized by recognized National Sports Federations, or National Games organized by the Indian Olympic Association) and won a medal or position up to 3rd place; between Senior and Junior National participants, Senior National medal winners are preferred.
  3. Candidates who represented a University in an Inter-University competition (conducted by the Association of Indian Universities/Inter-University Sports Board) or Khelo India University Games, and won a medal or position up to 3rd place in finals.
  4. Candidates who represented a State/UT in Khelo India Youth Games (above 18 years), Khelo India Winter Games, or Khelo India Para Games, and won a medal or position up to 3rd place in finals.
  5. Candidates who represented State Schools in National Sports/Games for Schools (conducted by the All-India School Games Federation) and won a medal or position up to 3rd place.
  6. Candidates who represented a State/UT/University/State Schools Team at the levels above (categories 2–5) but did not win a medal or position, in the same order of preference.
  • Only participation/achievements between 01.01.2022 and 30.06.2026 will be considered; the closing date of the tournament/event must fall within this range.
  • Candidates must be clear in all Doping Tests conducted by WADA/NADA or other relevant authorities, and must not have been disqualified or banned by any sports federation for disciplinary reasons. Any ongoing doping/unfair-means investigation must be disclosed as per Annexure-B.
  • Tie-break: higher sporting achievement during 01.01.2022–30.06.2026 first; if still tied, higher number of cumulative medals during the same period.
  • Individual and team events/games receive the same preference; except in a tie, no extra preference is given for winning more than one medal/position.

Certificates evidencing sports participation/achievement are accepted only from the prescribed competent authority for each competition level:

Income Tax Department Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

  1. Applications are scrutinized for nationality, age, educational qualification, and best sporting performances between 01.01.2022 and 30.06.2026.
  2. Eligible shortlisted candidates are called before the Selection Committee for Document Verification of attested photocopies and Forms submitted with the application; only documents submitted with the original application are considered.
  3. Candidates already employed must submit a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their present employer at Document Verification.
  4. Shortlisted candidates then undergo a Ground/Field Proficiency Test to evaluate their proficiency in the respective Sport/Game.
  5. Candidates shortlisted for Tax Assistant (TA) must additionally qualify a Data Entry Skill Test at 8,000 key depressions per hour.
  6. Final selection is made strictly in order of merit, based on evaluation of best performances (01.01.2022–30.06.2026) combined with marks from the Ground/Field Proficiency Test.

Success at any stage of the selection process confers no right to appointment unless the Department is satisfied, after any enquiry it considers necessary, that the candidate is suitable in all respects. The venue for Document Verification and the Ground/Field Proficiency Test will be intimated to shortlisted candidates in due course.

  1. Download and fill the application form in the prescribed format given in Annexure-A of the notice, in black or blue ink, in Capital Letters.
  2. Attach a recent colour, front-facing passport-size photograph (without spectacles, sunglasses, or headgear) duly attested by a Gazetted Officer.
  3. Attach attested photocopies (by a Gazetted Officer) of all supporting documents for nationality, date of birth, age, educational qualification, caste, and sports achievements.
  4. Write the following phrase clearly on the envelope: “APPLICATION FOR THE POST(S) OF ___________ FOR RECRUITMENT OF MERITORIOUS SPORTS PERSONS IN INCOME TAX DEPARTMENT, WEST BENGAL & SIKKIM”.
  5. Send the completed application by Normal Post/Speed Post/Registered Post/Courier to: Office of the Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, Headquarters (Personnel & Establishment), 1st Floor, Room No-14, Aayakar Bhawan, P-7 Chowringhee Square, Kolkata – 700069, so as to reach on or before 30.09.2026. Physical presence for submission is not compulsory.
  6. Additionally, fill and submit the supplementary Google Form at forms.gle/sf7iXVo1WeosAjtV6. This is an additional requirement for processing/screening only, and does not substitute the physical application.

In the event of any discrepancy between the Google Form and the physical application, the physical application will be treated as final for all purposes of scrutiny and selection.
